A lot of women only go to the gynecologist when they are experiencing issues. Or they go in their twenties, only to stop in their thirties, forties, and fifties because they think just because they no longer need birth control, that they don't need to go in for routine exams. There's a reason why you should be going to the gynecologist yearly for exams—a number of reasons, actually. Read on for a few of these reasons and why they are so important.

1. To Keep Up with Your Feminine Health

There's a lot going on with the female body, and a lot of things you may not even think twice about or consider, but may actually be very important. Things such as the color of your discharge, or how heavy or light of a period you experience. You may not even consider your weight as having anything to do with your feminine health, but it does, and your gynecologist can help you manage all of these things and have you paying closer attention to these things because of their significance. For instance, your discharge color could have something to do with having a yeast infection, and your period flow can have a lot to do with both your weight and your hormone levels.

2. To Prevent Diseases

Going to the gynecologist can help to prevent diseases, and also help to catch the signs or symptoms of a disease such as cancer. Having a regular pap smear can help detect abnormal cells in the uterus, and having a breast exam at your yearly visit can also detect breast cancer early. Going in for exams can help detect other diseases such as sexually transmitted diseases and prevent spreading them to others if you are having unprotected sex.

3.  To Help with Weight Management

If you are having issues losing weight, your gynecologist can actually help with this as well. Your gynecologist is there for all things female, and this includes weight loss. If you've had issues losing weight, or you are overweight and are looking to lose the excess weight you've been carrying around to just be healthier all around, make an appointment with your gynecologist to discuss these things.

If you haven't been to the gynecologist in awhile, it's time to make an appointment. Stay on top of your feminine health by going in for your yearly exams and checkups with your gynecologist.
